The redevelopment of the King George V (KGV) sports and community precinct in Glenorchy, Tasmania will be supported by $8.7 million from the Australian Government.

Visiting the precinct with Tasmanian Premier Lara Giddings, the Minister for Regional Australia, Regional Development and Local Government Simon Crean said the redeveloped King George V sports and community precinct will be a great community asset that will enhance liveability of the region.

“The redeveloped facility will provide a community space that is open and accessible to everyone and will bring significant benefits to the local Glenorchy and wider Hobart communities,” the Minister said.

According to Premier Lara Giddings the Glenorchy City Council and Glenorchy Football Club had put in many years of hard work and planning into the redevelopment.

The KGV redevelopment will include dedicated office accommodation for the Migrant Resource Centre, which is presently spread over a number of different locations.

The redevelopment will also provide a health and wellness centre, upgrades to the Glenorchy Football Club facilities, a theatrette, meeting room and training room, function rooms with bar and bistro, a cafe and commercial kitchen, a transport museum shed, re-furbished cricket training nets, a multi-purpose synthetic spots pitch and a new pedestrian entrance and landscaping.

The funding for the project is available this financial year.
